Archimedes Lab Project is a great small independent educational organization. It is a full-time commitment that depends almost entirely on the support of its fans and friends to keep educational projects and the website going. Archimedes Lab Project is important for us, but even more important for all those curious-minded people who look for free original and valuable content and activities.
If you love what we do, please support us – donate now what you can afford to encourage our small non-profit organization to continue providing a wide array of educational online articles and programs to the community and the world. Thank you!
What is Archimedes Laboratory Project
Archimedes-lab.org is a free, independent and collaborative educational project. The website is supervised by a consulting network of experts specializing in online education.
The main goal of Archimedes’ Lab is to show mathematics in a different light and to make it accessible and enjoyable to everyone through original visual puzzles and games. The site walks visitors through various problem solving strategies and discoveries in the world of recreational mathematics.
Limited parts of the site are offered in French, Italian, Spanish and German. But regular puzzle features like the Puzzle of the Week, the Sunday Puzzle and the Puzzle of the Month are available in three languages: English, French and Italian.
Among the proposed educational tools and tutorials, visitors will find intuitive visuals, number games, puzzles with downloadable pieces, perception puzzles and interactive optical illusions. A principal objective throughout the site is the enhancement of critical thinking skills and the development of creativity.
How was Archimedes Laboratory born?
We form, my husband Gianni and I, Marie-Jo, an eccentric couple of authors with a big passion for: logic and math games, perceptive brainteasers, and cheese. Together we can be engaged in endless discussions about book and game projects, even when we go out for dinner. Sometimes, the paper tablecloths at our favorite restaurants turn into a kind of ‘Lascaux Cave’ in two dimensions, decorated with essential graffiti, Paleolithic signs casually left for the intention of generations of onlookers or curious minds who will maybe see in those scribbles a flash of intelligence. It is said that the body contains enough carbon to manufacture 900 pencils. Fortunately, we never had to dip into our personal carbon supply for designing new puzzles and games for children and adults alike… It is out of these discussions that sprang the idea of sharing our passion with the world. And so the project Archimedes Lab was born.
Yes, curating a huge website and inventing puzzles and games every day is not exactly restful, but to know that in every time zone of the world there is at least one happy person playing with one of our creations is really the most beautiful gratification!
